Most of us would agree that, for better or worse, our houses speak for us. They are like a second face we present to the world. But when does a house become your home? It is the moment your house begins speaking to you—in an ongoing conversation propelled by the acquiring, arranging, and rearranging objects to express your personality in the spaces you inhabit. I gave this as a gift (online) not having reviewed the full interior, and the receiving party returned it immediately.
This book is mariketed in a lighthearted eclectic manner, but when one actually goes through it, you discover the heaviness many people choose to decorate their homes in. One example is a home which places an old doll in a coffin in the corner of a bedroom with blood coming out its neck and red walls… While I love the individual expression, and find the morbidity in a great deal of this book facinating, it’s difficult to swallow.
This book has a definite following, just marketed incorrectly. It’s Rocky Horror meets interior design, interesting color combinations and individual expression on the dark side. If that suits your fancy, then it’s a fabulous book.

I love to see how people can be resourceful and creative in their living space. It is a wonderful book. You almost feel as if you had been invited to their house.
The photographs are wonderful. A real artsy feeling.

Both college-level collections strong in architecture and general-interest lending libraries strong in homeowner’s and home guides will find useful and revealing To Each His Home: Inspired Interiors as Unique as Their Owners. It tours eight lovely homes that express their owners’ personalities, blending color photos with interviews with each homeowner and surveying American spaces and different choices in color, setup, and style. The homes were created by visual artists, a musician, an inventor, and even a former boxer, and provide a lovely diversity of approaches and ideas.

A very nice book of eclectic and unusual interior & exterior home designs. The stories are not by interior decorators or anyone following the typical ‘asid’ formulas. These homes are from regular folks with a personal flair of individuality. I’m inspired by their freedom to express their life’s passion and creativity. Yes, Modern, Traditional, Southwestern, Country, Mediterranean or Asian are all nice typical styles. But those typical and common styles are so boringly tidy with an ‘industry standard’ of what to buy and where to put it. This book says; ‘why not follow your heart and let your creative juices flow?’ This book inspires the reader to be creative and use their own individual passions, style and uniqueness. This is not a ‘how to’ book. These are the stories, with beautiful photos, of individuals who decorate with their life’s passions. This is the story of creative expression, interests and passions in ones personal habitat.
